What were you doing for cardio before? and are you doing this at home?
I am in need of something new for cardio so I though I would check out what the internet had to offer. There are a lot of videos on Youtube so Billy Blanks it is. Anyone have any suggestions or cardio videos they are working out to?

During the summer, working outdoors and swimming. During the winter, elliptical for at least an hour at home. This will be done at home too. I am trying to do it on the cheap. I work out more at home than at a gym. I know it is usually the other way around, but the Y here is packed all the time during my free time.
I do HIIT for my cardio and I'm running a bout 8/10ths with the elliptical maxxed out now and going a mile and a half in 20 minutes or so. usually I watch news feeds at the gym but I'm watching the olympics since its on. I highly recommend you do some HIIT if you aren't already.
HIIT is really good. Also P90X kicks my A$$.
I've heard people both in shape and out of shape proclaim that p90x is an awesome program.
P90X is the way to go.. but it's very hardcore and requires a lot of kicking.. if you have problems with your knees or legs, this will be an issue for you. Even the beginning stuff requires a large amount of balance and coordination (this is coming from a brown belt in kempo). Kempo is what P90X is based after. Billy blanks I think would be a good place to start. I have the DVDs if you'd like to 'borrow' them.
Yeah, im still fat....I dont need P90X yet.
Have you thought about swimming (since it is getting warmer).. It's great cardio if you're doing it right. There's biking, which is fun.. Walking or running is good tooe. Just keep your body guessing.![]()
Hmm, swimming...never thought of that......hmmmm....maybe I should dig a hole in my backyard and fill it with water......hmmm....swimming is a summer deal for me.
Still not able to run, my knees are already bad enough and with all that weight....gotta lose more first. Biking...still a fatass...and reenforced bikes that are big enough for me regardless of weight is REALLLLLLLY expensive.
SWIM YOU MAGNIFICENT BASTARD!!!!![]()
Just walking at first as long as you do it for extended periods is really good for your cardiovascular system which in turn will effect your weight. One of the major things to keep in mind is that you do NOT want to reduce the amount of calories you eat by too much because it confuses your body and it thinks it needs to store reserves because you are going into starvation mode. This is one of the key reasons that Weight Watchers works so well because they base your alloted points both on your current weight as well as the amount of exercise or "activity points" you earn. It's very important to use at least half of the points or calories you earn when you're exercising.
The black water creek trail in Lynchburg is a great place to start with just walking. You can start either on the pure asphalt trail which is perfectly flat for 99% of the trail, or venture off into some of the wooded terrain if you're feeling extra "Columbus'y" and would like to explore some. If you're thinking of starting to walk I would recommend starting off with 60min walks. It's low impact for your ankles, knees, and hips so when you're overweight you won't feel as much stress in your joints. Remember it's not about going fast it's about going. Speed will come naturally. Also if you're planning on walking, swing those arms too instead of just letting them idle by your side. Every bit of movement translates into calories used.
Later when you're feeling an urge to add a little speed, you could start by trying to toss in a light jog for 20-30seconds every 5 minutes, then later reduce the time to every 2 minutes. Eventually you can transition into running a minute and walking a minute until eventually you're just running the whole time.
Very good advice.. I need to get back on my bike.. it's a great place to ride too.
