lol, they have dropped the price $10 for it...not a good sign for the game itself.

    In Love

As much as I love Star Trek I am afraid to even try this game for a few reasons... no free trial.. and the fact that it will be a crap space mmo with Star Trek in the name makes me cringe... perhaps my expectations are too high... I still prefer WoW.

But I might try it if BJ really gives it a good review

There is a free trial. 5 days keys are given to those who buy the game. I am on it right now. So far, since my expectations were low to begin with, it is playable. Ship combat is better than I was told. Ground combat is...odd...takes some getting used to. Thats all i have to say right now, only have put in a couple of hours.

Speaking of free stuff I can't stop playing quake live. I wish ID would go back and do this with all their past games. That would be freaking hot.

    Ok, so my thoughts....

If you are a WoW freak and still love WoW, dont waste your time. If you liked WoW and are looking for a change of scenery, try out STO, if you are a fan of Star Trek, definitely give it a go. There is a lot of nerdness in the story lines.

Space battles are the shit. This surpasses any Academy game and BY FAR better than Legacy.

Ground battles, takes some getting used to but seems to play like WoW to me.

There are plenty of bugs but they are working often to resolve them and making a lot of progress.

Playing Federation is the standard, Klingon is interesting so far, I like battling with a Bat'leth.

Those that say it is too short of a game...geez you just burned through the game in no time, Start Klingon character.

Those that say it is repetitive....WTF are you doing in WoW? All MMOs are repetitive.

It is pretty, i love customizing my ship and crew. This isn't the Star Trek MMO we wanted but at least it is a pretty decent Star Trek game for a change!

Still trucking along....a lot of good past trek references in this game. Got Smitty, 2dskillz, Attipark, and Squirrel running missions. Anyone else take the leap?

Here are a few thoughts on the game from someone who has been playing WoW for a long time

    -Ship combat is fun
-Ground combat is weird like Josh said. Pretty simple stuff.
-There are a decent amount of "missions" to do, not as many as some other MMOs though.
-The stat system is a mess. You will find ship parts with a stat on them and not know what the fuck the stat does for your ship.
-Many of the common additions to MMOs are lacking here. I set out to make a "tank" ship but I have no clue how threat is calculated or how it works. This goes back to the stat system and how it isnt clear what affects your ship.
-The game is buggy as hell. I will drop into a "deep space encounter" which is kind of like a 5 man dungeon in other games and 20 or 30 ships will spawn in around me and kill me. Sometimes I will join an encounter where a ship 30-40 levels above me spawn in and kills me in two shots.
    -Servers are buggy as well.

Overall I think it has potential but Cryptic needs to get their ass in gear and fix whats broken. I have been playing it very casually and have enjoyed it so far. Certainly not the best MMO and I think a lot more could have been done but its fun.

I agree with the common thread of "fun game". If you are a Star Trek fan, it's an easy purchase/join decision. Cryptic does have a decent amount of stuff they need to work out and it seems they are starting to make progress. It is much less buggy than it was a month ago. My biggest complaint is what Attipark mentioned: Skill system takes a while to figure out. With quite a few levels under my belt (and a good amount of forum reading), it makes more sense. This learning curve is too steep. They need to either simplify things, or explain them better in-game. Overall, I love the game and will def keep my subscription going. Nothing beats flying around and learning more about the Star Trek universe.
