I am a late comer to Reddit. I tried the website and really didn’t like the layout or anything about. However, when work allowed me to get a loaner iPad…I gave Reddit another chance because of my friends are always on Reddit with their cell phones. Love it now! The app makes reading what is posted so much easier for me. I still don’t care for the EXTREME community generated topic/post since the topic amount is overwhelming but for what I am following, I can live with it. It is Free, give it a try. It should be on my mobile platforms.

My new addiction…

So I am on vacation and since it is SO hot out, I am inside on a Battlestar Galactica marathon again. I have this iPad from work though so I am getting really familiar with that now. Browsing through the App Store, I have come across a Sim type game! VegasTowers HD. It is basically SimTower if you ever played that back in the day. It is pretty, simple, and very Farmville like with timers. People sleep, gamble, eat, etc. and your job is to provide sleeping space and entertainment which equals money.

It does seem slow, there isn’t a lot of money to be made. So if you are not patient enough, you can always do micro transactions and buy fake money for the game to expand your VegasTower. Seem that the ranking system is based solely on your daily population average. I am already in the top 50. It isn’t that hard and you don’t need a gigantic tower either.

It is free and does have some bugs. The timers may get stuck in a loop which can be annoying if you don’t realize it. Just end the app and restart it and you pick up where it last left off. Ton of fun for those sim lovers out there like me!

I couple years ago now, I bought my first digital video camcorder to shoot some crap from LAN Parties and whatever else I wanted. Digital Cameras and Video Camcorders are definitely NOT my forte in the geek world so I have to do a lot of research and visits to stores for what I want.

So I picked up a Sony HandyCam DCR-SR42 with 30 GB hard drive. Pretty cool, hard drive but definitely could have problems, moving parts suck sometimes in cameras. I dropped mycamcorder a couple of times and OF COURSE…the hard drive went bad. So I wanted to fix it and let those that may be looking for repairs see what I did.

The errors I would get, Buffer Overflow and the camera would stop record after 40 minutes of footage. I went online to see if I could replace the drive via Sony…NOT WORTH IT, they charge over $100 for repairs. Checked around, people were trying to tell others what the problem was..blah blah blah. I wanted to replace the hard drive because I knew that was the problem.

Finally I went to YouTube and found a video showing me how. Pretty easy actually. This will work for any of the Sony HandyCams with the hard drives.

So this was gear towards an upgrade but it can be used for replacing a bad hard drive. You will need a 1.8 Tif hard drive if you are looking on eBay for the part. These are the same drives used in Zunes and iPods. I am not sure if you can use SSDs in the cameras, but I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to.

Cheap repair or upgrade if you are looking to do this. Check it out, worked great for me. Good video on how-to. After my repair/upgrade, I went from 30GB to 80GB.

Yes…TODAY, 15 years ago, Windows 95 change the computing world on desktops and servers. The START button has given way to the Windows button now but this was a HUGE deal in 1995. I was 15 at the time and remember fighting with my sister that I shouldn’t upgrade our computer to Windows 95. You got to think about it…this paved the way of PCs as we know it today. The internet was in it’s infancy in those days too. Amazing how far we have come and I feel old thinking about it now.

The START button was always a silly thing to me. Why call it START? Well, here is what Microsoft was thinking at the time… the original release commercial!

So I like to share with everyone where I am surfing to, what sideboob I am currently digging, and just about everything else. Time for my playlist. I used to produce a podcast and may pick up on it again. However I do listen and watch several video and audio podcast weekly.

To pay homage to my favorite podcasts right now, The Video Games Show along with Bombed Out Radio, for this initial posting. Both are hosted by Rich Bergen and Nick Kraftor. I worked with both on XboxAddict.com several years ago now, more Nick than Rich. I guess that makes the show more enjoyable to me. Knowing the people that host the show and poking fun during their live recordings, always a blast. If you want to get a dose of video game news and random geek talk, tune in to these weekly shows. I’m a big supporter of the show and have built a fanpage, of sorts, for them. Check out Normalview.net or just click on their podcast pics for their show websites.

For this weeks video podcast, HD Nation via Revision3. I love to keep up with all the latest HDTVs, projectors, players, HTPCs,etc. I don’t care for Robert Heron but Patrick Norton is a hero in my book. Anything he is involved with, I am there.

Chalk another up for the MPAA. They have successfully shutdown one of the best newsgroups indexing sites, Newzbin.com. There is a problem if the MPAA is able to take down an indexer but not the people that have originally uploaded the content. A lot of the times, it is their own distributors with the breaches! Now I use the groups to download TV shows, most of them are from the current season. If networks like CBS would offer a better on demand service of their shows, I wouldn’t have to be downloading commercial free episodes of their shows. Places like Hulu are awesome for ON DEMAND content. When will the MPAA, RIAA, TV networks get with the program and cater to their customers! We are pushing for change, WTF are you doing going after the wrong people and forcing old ideas on today’s generation??
